Solent Running Sisters have provided Beginners' Courses for many years now - enabling many women to start running. Whether your ambition is to do a 5K or (eventually!) a marathon, starting out well is essential, picking up good habits and building up your endurance. Running in a group really helps - quality conversation makes a session much easier and we support each other. There is no such thing as "too slow" - we organise sessions so that nobody is left behind and nobody is held back. In fact, we are often advising beginners to "slow down" if they are to meet their distance objectives!
We run 2 or 3 Beginners' Courses every year, limited by the availability of our volunteer leaders and of our regular runners who also pitch in to help. Each one is a 10 week course with 1 club session per week. There is a manual we supply as a pdf as well as what homework to do.
Our new Beginners tend to progress brilliantly when running 2 or 3 times a week - many buddy up to do their homework sessions together. It also helps if you can undertake some low impact aerobic exercise too - which can be as simple as taking more walks.
Club sessions go from either Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre or B&Q House in Chandlers Ford.
Cost is currently £35. This includes the course, pdf manual, a reflective vest, EA affiliation and membership up to 1st January 2018.
Our next Beginners' Course is taking place from 6th September at Solent University. Because it is a progressive course, you will need to start at the beginning of the 10 week programme rather than join in midway. Improvers can join from 11th October for the final 4 weeks.
